Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State - a Smart or Irrational move?

With the recent appointment of Tillerson to Secretary of State, has President Trump made a smart or irrational move?

President Donald J. Trump, over the first months of his Presidency, has slowly constructed his government. He has awarded senior positions to such figures as John F. Kelly, Dr. Ben Carson and James “Mad Dog” Mattis. However, his most controversial appointment has been Rex Tillerson, to the position of Secretary of State. Tillerson, former head of the conglomerate ExxonMobil, comes from a highly business motivated background, having close ties with Industry, Finance and Russia. Many are sceptical, however, over his lack of political experience, and the prospects for the environment that the appointment of a former oil tycoon brings. Nevertheless, the question remains as to whether the appointment of Tillerson to Secretary of State is a smart or irrational move by President Trump.
