Organ shortages kill up to 1,000 people per year, equivalent to three a day. The NHS Blood and Transplant agency estimates 6,485 people are on the organ waiting list. When Wales introduced the opt-out system, the number of transplants rose by one third. Around 60% of the UK’s population would support the change to the opt out system, so why hasn’t this change taken place?
